5 Things To Know Today: Feb. 22

Two activities at Mohr Library, sushi at Whole Foods in Cranston, the Manton Seniors try their luck at Foxwoods, Panthers advance, and today in history: Yes, I believe in miracles.

2-for-1 At Mohr: Today at 11 a.m., Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library hosts "Gum Drop Architecture" for ages 6 and up as part of its vacation week schedule. Gum drops and toothpicks provided; creativity required. And later, at 3 p.m., Mohr continues its author series on Raymond Carver by discussing the controversy surrounding this prolific writer.

Sushi 101: Whole Foods in Cranston hosts Sushi 101 for Kids starting at 10 a.m. The activity is free, but space is limited. Protip: don't repeat the old Jeff Foxworthy joke that where he's from, they call it 'bait.'

Trip To Foxwoods: The Manton Seniors of Johnston (don't confuse them with the 'other' Manton Seniors) will make their monthly trip to Foxwood Resort and Casino today. ETD is 8:15 a.m. Bring your lucky rabbit's foot and a strong right arm for those bandits. Tix are $20 and include full buffet or food and keno voucher. Bus leaves from the former 1025 Club on Plainfield Street.

Panthers Win In D-III Quarterfinals: The boys' varsity basketball team defeated Exeter-West Greenwich last night, 67-57. A full report with photos and videos appears today at 10 a.m.

Today In History: Only those of us lucky enough to see it can really appreciate what it meant for the U.S. Olympic hockey team to bring down the mighty Red Machine of the U.S.S.R. on this date in 1980. Of course, those of us on the East Coast also missed some of the important action because a Diet Pepsi commercial got in the way — but we all remember Al Michael's call: "Do you believe in miracles?"
