Scenes from the 26th Johnston Apple Festival, 2013
The North Central Chamber of Commerce celebrated fall in Johnston over the Sept. 21-22 weekend.
Saturday stayed beautiful and Sunday's rain melted away as the day progressed, bringing thousands to Johnston Memorial Park the weekend of Sept. 21 and 22 for the 26th Annual Apple Festival.
Hewing to the autumnal message of transformation, the annual event included both the traditional and the new, with another favorite making a return.
In the much-anticipated apple pie baking contest, Stephanie Dancause took top honors, with Jo-Ann Desmarais finishing 2nd and Michelle Major Bucci placing third.
This year's event also included a 'senior single mingle' and campfires around the pond at Memorial Park on Saturday night.
On Sunday, the pie-eating contest returned after last year's rain-out — but the break didn't stop Damon Bedford from taking his third consecutive group title, the only repeat winner in this year's victors.
