Ribbon Cut for New Home for Veterans

Operation Stand Down dedicated the house on Hartford Avenue on Monday.

Seven homeless veterans can enjoy a new home on Hartford Avenue thanks to Operation Stand Down RI, a group that advocates for and supports struggling and homeless veterans.

The group rehabilitated the house at 1010 Hartford Ave., spending about $1.3 million to convert the two distressed properties into renovated properties. A house and two apartment buildings will be the new home for about six veterans and two families.

The project was funded through grants.

The project is the agency's sixth in its 20-year-history.

According to WPRO, the homes honor the memory of Jean Louise Mayo, U.S. Air Force; John Arthur Johnson, U.S. Navy; and SPC Ronald E. Blake, U.S. Army, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1965.
