The calendar read Sept. 24, but it felt more like summer on the first day of the at .

Mayor Joseph Polisena; members of the Johnston town council and school committee; Louis Manzollo, Chairman of the apple festival; and President Deb Ramos were among the local dignitaries who joined the procession through the park.

Johnston High School's band and chorus lent their music and talents to the formal opening ceremonies.
