Photo Gallery: Animal Experiences At Mohr Library

Dave Marchetti brought a hands-on experience to kids at the local library.

Wally the alligator, Buddy the Chinchilla and Dora & Diego box turtles, plus snakes and frogs took center stage at the library on August 3, as Dave Marchetti fascinated children with his hands-on animal experiences presentation.

"For more than 20 years, I have been doing the hands-on animal experiences," said Marchetti adding none of the animals are poisonous.

As the animal experiences presentation got under way, Marchetti gave the children an education on the different types of animals all over the world, how big they grow and what the animals eat.

"The box turtles, Dora & Diego, eat leftover macaroni," said Marchetti.

Marchetti also tested the childrens' animal knowledge; one question was: How many kinds of amphibians are there? Answer: four — frogs, toads, salamader and newts.

The children also got an opportunity to hold and pet different animals.

Marchetti has a new children's book out called Steve the Stickle Back, about a fish who searches for the best place to have his babies. Find more info about Dave and the programs he offers at the Best Animal Experiences website.
