The state Department of Transportation will be closing the Morgan Avenue Bridge over the Pocasset River next week.
An earlier plan to close the bridge from Wednesday to Friday this week has been postponed to next week.
As part of the bridge replacement project, there will be temporary construction signs, including detour signs, on Atwood, Morgan, Central and Downing Drives in a moving operation Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Next week, starting on Aug. 13, the bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for clearing and grubbing, installation of erosion controls and survey operations.
"It is anticipated that these intermittent detours will last several months," the DOT said in a community update. "Motorists are advised to detour using Atwood Avenue to Central Avenue to Downing Drive and back to Morgan Avenue."
