National Grid Applauds Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island for Ranking Among Top Ten Most Energy Efficient States

Massachusetts Ranks Number One in Energy Efficiency for Third Straight Year

November 7, 2013 – As a proud partner in energy efficiency for many years in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island, National Grid congratulates these states for their leadership, along with its customers, communities, contractors and employees, for their roles in helping them rank first, third and sixth respectively among the most energy efficient states in the country.  The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) included these rankings in its seventh annual State Energy Efficiency Scorecard. The scorecard ranks all 50 states and the District of Columbia on their policies and programs that encourage the efficient use of energy in buildings, transportation and industry.

“We are proud to work hand-in-hand with all of the communities we serve to help improve the efficiency in how they use energy every day.  We continue to see strong leadership across the states here in the northeast, and are incredibly pleased to see those that we operate in ranked among the top ten most energy efficient states,” said Tom King, president, National Grid U.S. “National Grid offers a wide range of programs that assist our residential and business customers in reducing energy use, encouraging them to do their part to promote a greener environment.  The ACEEE Energy Efficiency Scorecard rankings are proof positive that these efforts are paying off.  We are working hard to keep our customers and communities at the top of this prestigious list.”

ABOUT NATIONAL GRID

National Grid (LSE: NG; NYSE:NGG) is an electricity and gas company that connects consumers to energy sources through its networks. The company is at the heart of one of the greatest challenges facing our society - to create new, sustainable energy solutions for the future and developing an energy system that underpins economic prosperity in the 21st century. National Grid holds a vital position at the center of the energy system and it ‘joins everything up’.

In the northeast US, we connect more than seven million gas and electric customers to vital energy sources, essential for our modern lifestyles. In Great Britain, we run the gas and electricity systems that our society is built on, delivering gas and electricity across the country.

National Grid delivers electricity to approximately 3.3 million customers in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. It manages the electricity network on Long Island under an agreement with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), and owns over 4,000 megawatts of contracted electricity generation, providing power to over one million LIPA customers. It is the largest distributor of natural gas in northeastern U.S., serving approximately 3.4 million customers in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
