Welcome the Fall, Books for All

Eyes on the weekend? Here's what's happening around Johnston.

Fall Celebration: Did you know the autumnal equinox is Sept. 21? Fittingly, so is the 26th Annual Johnston Apple Fest, put on by the North Central Chamber of Commerce. Saturday's parade is at 11 a.m. Find more at the linky-link up there.

Browse for Books: And if you wind up parking at Johnston High School and walking down Memorial Avenue for the Apple Festival this weekend, make a stop at the Marian J. Mohr Library Friends of the Library Book Sale. Books and DVDs, hardcover and paperbacks. Saturday and Sunday.

Scenic Views: While you're at the library on Saturday, be sure to check out the Lighthouses of Rhode Island Postcard Collection on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wine Country: Start the cool weekend a little early at scenic Shelalara Vineyards and Winery in Coventry and support the Literacy Volunteers of Kent County with their Wine Tasting Fundraiser set to start Friday at 6 p.m. $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Call Kathy Gray at (401) 822-9103 for more details.

Iffy Sunday: The weekend forecast for Johnston includes sunny and clear skies for Friday and Saturday, but it looks like rain for Sunday. Daytime highs in the 70s, overnight temps in the upper 50s.
