Johnston Memorial Park is scheduled to host the Campfires for Cancer event on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 3-11 p.m.
Campfires for Cancer is a one-day event designed to help fight cancer in children. Proceeds help to support the programs and services of the Hasbro Children's Hospital Hematology/Oncology Department.
The event includes cookout sites, rides for children, ice cream sundae making, games, music and campfires in the evening.

More About Johnston Memorial Park
Officially known as "Johnston War Memorial Park," this multipurpose open space was established following the conclusion of World War II. In the time since its dedication to Johnston's veterans on Memorial Day 1946, the park has expanded to include the town's public pool, tennis courts, a performance pavilion, and baseball and softball fields. Other renovations include the installation of a walking track around Pocasset Pond and a playground for younger children.
