Roads Mostly Clear, But Ice Is Possible
Most roads are clear around the town, but they could become slippery this afternoon. Let us know where the problem areas are in Johnston.
Rain and freezing rain continue to fall around Johnston Wednesday afternoon, raising the possibility of a slippery commute home, especially as the sun sets and temperatures drop.
Roads were most treacherous this morning as a couple of inches of snow fell over the town, according to police Deputy Chief David DeCesare, but as the weather switched to mostly rain, conditions improved. "The main roads are perfect," DeCesare said, and secondary roads are just "a little slushy," but there have been no reports of problems other than a couple minor fender-benders, he said.
Road crews have been out treating the streets since early this morning, according to the mayor's office. Still there's reason for caution. The National Weather Service is forecasting rain showers to continue around Johnston through the afternoon, coming to an end around 5. After sunset, temperatures are expected to drop into the high-20s, causing some wet roads to freeze.
