Police Log: Feb 7 to Feb. 10

This is a summary of reports provided to Johnston Patch by the Johnston Police Department for Feb. 7 to Feb. 10, 2011.

Assault with a coffee table

officers responded to 9 South Olney St. for a domestic disturbance call on Tuesday, Jan, 8.

Maria Izzo called the police and reported that her ex-husband, John J. Izzo, assaulted her during an argument. Mrs. Izzo told the officers that a verbal argument began in the upstairs bedroom and that Mr. Izzo allegedly threatened her with a dumbbell.

Mrs. Izzo said she ran downstairs to the basement and Mr. Izzo allegedly followed her. He picked up a coffee table and struck Maria in the head with the leg portion of the table, according to the police report. The officers documented redness and swelling on her right forehead in the temple area.

There was also a minor cut and bruising on her left arm, according to the report. Mr. Izzo denied the assault took place. John Izzo, 51, of 9 South Olney St., Johnston, was arrested and charged with domestic felony assault. He was arraigned and bail was set at $10,000 personal recognizance. A no-contact order was also issued.

Identity Fraud Arrest

John A. Sepulveda, 30, of 19 Warren Ave., North Providence, was arrested and charged with felony identity fraud.

On Aug. 31, 2010 Rachel Pineda went to the Johnston Police headquarters to report an identity theft that took place in 2009. Pineda told the police that she received a call from a collection agency trying to collect $1,088 for a loan that was in her name, according to the police report. The loan agent provided Pineda with the contact email address that was used on the loan application, along with the mailing address.

The mailing address was for a vacant residence next door to hers. The email address belonged to Pineda’s ex-boyfriend, Sepulveda. An arrest warrant was issued for Sepulveda after he agreed to make a full payment on the loan and neglected to do so twice.  He was released on $2,500 personal recognizance.
