[PHOTOS] 2012 Quonset Air Show
Even before the show officially opened to the public, the pilots were ready to wow spectators on Friday.
With sunny skies and temperatures nearing 70 over the next two days, the weather for this weekend's 2012 Rhode Island National Guard Open House and Air Show looks to be near perfect as performers such as the Air Force's Thunderbirds take to the skies above Quonset.
More than a dozen acts are slated for this year's event, from World War II era planes to jet-powered trucks. (There's even a Jelly Belly plane on the roster this year.) Check out the images and video above from Friday's practice day down at Quonset Point.
Gates open at 9 a.m. an hour before the show starts at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Each day's events are scheduled to conclude around 4:30 p.m.
How Do I Get There from Johnston? Take I-295 South to I-95 South and get over to the left. Take Exit 9 (Rte. 4 South) to North Kingstown and East Greenwich. From Rte. 4, take Exit 7B (Quonset). Stay on Rte. 403. Rte. 403 becomes Roger Williams Way. After the third traffic light on Roger Williams Way, take a left onto Conway Street. Follow signs to the Air National Guard Base.
