A quick look around Johnston after the Jan. 26-27 snowfall found clear roads and potential visibility problems, as it seemed the whole season's accumulation is still clinging to sidewalks and untreated areas.
The early-morning halt to the snow helped local crews treat and clear the streets by 11 a.m. Schools in Johnston were closed Jan. 27, and a parking ban issued by the Johnston Police Department remained in place through Thursday at 3 p.m. to assist with the ongoing clean-up effort.
Over at the recreation department at Memorial Park, the entrance to the office got a new steward: a snowman sculpted by rec staffers Karen Paquin and Shannon Pero.
Paquin said building the snowman was a way to deal with the seemingly endless cycle of snow, a two- or three-day pause, and more snow. So far this winter, there have been five major snowstorms since Dec. 26.
"You've got to have some fun with it," Paquin said.
