Langevin Gets Key Endorsement
The National Committee on the Preservation of Social Security and Medicare announced their endorsement of U.S. Rep. James Langevin this morning in Johnston.
Incumbent U.S. Rep. James Langevin (D) visited the Johnston Senior Center this morning to accept the endorsement of the National Committee on the Preservation of Social Security and Medicare, an organization dedicated to supporting legislation for seniors.
"One thing I will not do, as long as I'm in Congress, is turn Medicare into a voucher program," Langevin announced to a crowd of about 100. "It's not the way to go, Medicare is the way to go, [and] we're going to preserve it."
Max Richtman, President and CEO of the organization, said the group has backed Langevin for 12 years because of his commitment to preserving the safety net programs.
"You recognize that Medicare is crucial to the health of older Americans, many of whom cannot afford higher out-of-pocket costs that some in Congress are calling for," Richtman explained.
