June 8: JHS Graduation Ceremonies Tonight
It's June 8, 2012, and here are your 5 Things to Know Today.
Graduation: Tonight at the Providence Performing Arts Center, the Johnston High School Class of 2012 is scheduled to walk the stage and leave with some nice parting gifts (a diploma, for one). We'll be posting a photo gallery where you can upload photos and video to share your memories of Graduation Day.
Gray: Ugh. How much longer with the clouds, already? Answer: Not much. Another day of clouds and chance of rain, then clearing out for Saturday morning. Highs in the mid-70s today, getting into the 80s tomorrow and nearly that warm on Sunday.
Gone Away: Alfred "Chippy" Scivola of Johnston learned his fate during a U.S. District Court sentencing yesterday: 46 months in the federal pen and three years' probation after that.
Gaspee: This weekend is the annual celebration of the burning of the HMS Gaspee, one of the earliest shows of rebellion by the American colonies against Britain in 1772. [Get to the back of the line, Boston Tea Party.] Fireworks, parade, and the burning of a replica are all part of the fun this weekend in Pawtuxet Village in Cranston — or Warwick, if you want to be picky about it.
Grabbed: In another arrest report worthy of OMG PD, our police log of June 8, 2011 noted how an off-duty Johnston cop witnessed a man rolling a "blunt" while sitting in his car, parked in the driveway of a gas station.
