June 21: Another H-H-H Day — Stay Cool
It's June 21, the second day of summer, and here are your 5 Things to Know Today.
Africa Hot: Another hot day is expected, with highs reaching 100 during the day. All the warnings from yesterday — ozone alert, heat advisory, &c. — remain in effect. The Johnston Senior Center is scheduled to stay open as a cooling center until 9 pm; Marian J. Mohr Library is open until 8.
Stay Cool: Speaking of the Senior Center, there's a movie of the week scheduled for 10:30 am and Bingo set for 1:15 pm — make a day of it: Catch the flick, grab a bite in the dining room, and stay for a shot at the jackpot.
Chill: Later in the day, the North Central Chamber of Commerce is hosting its June Business After Hours at North Bay Retirement Living, 171 Pleasant View Ave. in Smithfield. Networking, tours — and sangria.
Nominate: We're looking for your nominations in 25 categories for our upcoming Readers' Choice series of polls, to begin July 9. Check out the complete list and add your voice.
Competition: On this date last year, we posted a photo gallery from the 2011 Hershey Track & Field meet, held at Johnston High School.
