July 4: Water Works Instead of Fireworks?
Happy Fourth of July, 2012! Here's a special edition of 5 Things to Know Today.
Refresher: Today is the Fourth of July — well, yes, it's on the calendar, but it's also a time to honor the date that American colonists issued the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It's also a federal holiday, with no mail service or banks open.
Water Works?: Keep a rain coat handy if you're heading out tonight — the forecast is for a chance of rain and thunderstorms later in the day. Clearing out for Thursday and Friday.
Celebration: Rhode Island has a few notable events happening to honor the Fourth, with the best-known one being the Bristol Fourth of July Parade. If you're heading out there — or have already made the trek — be sure to check out our handy Guide to the Bristol Parade.
Fireworks: If you're looking for the locations and times of fireworks displays around Rhode Island honoring the Fourth, look no further — we've posted a handy list, along with directions from Johnston.
Contribute: Later today, we'll be posting an article where you can submit your photos and videos from July 4th celebrations — be sure to watch for it at 4 pm.
