Johnston Police Log: Leads Sought in Copper Theft; Warrant Arrest
The following reports were provided by the Johnston Police Department. Where an arrest is noted, it does not indicate a conviction.
Leads Sought in Copper Theft:
Johnston Police are seeking information on the apparent theft of copper pipes and fittings from 747 Greenville Ave., which occurred between Oct. 24 at 6:30 pm and Oct. 27 at 4 pm.
Ptlm. Troy Maddocks reported that he spoke with Kenneth McNeil, who stated that he discovered the copper missing when he checked the contents of a metal storage container on his property.
Maddocks said he saw fingerprint "smudge" marks on the outside of the storage container and referred the matter to detectives for further investigation.
The estimated value of the copper is $3,400.
Ptlm. Derick Ofori reported that he went to 19 Vacca St. to disperse Brian Botelho, 33, of 63 Cypress St., Providence from the property.
A check of Botelho's identification returned an active warrant issued by Providence Superior Court for failiure to appear at a court hearing.
Online court records show that Botelho pleaded no contest to a felony charge of assault on Feb. 3, 2009, and owes $240 in restitution.
Magistrate Patricia L. Harwood issued the warrant on Sept. 19 after Botelho failed to appear at a restitution review the day before.
