Johnston Man Pleads Not Guilty in Fatal Maine Crash
Christopher Bennett, 20, faces charges of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter following a Sept. 2 accident that killed the passenger in his vehicle.
The 20-year-old Johnston man charged with felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter following a Sept. 2 crash pleaded not guilty in court on Nov. 30.
According to the Portland Press Herald website, Christopher Bennett appeared in York County [Maine] Superior Court to enter his plea at a formal arraignment before Judge John O'Neil.
Bennett stands accused of driving drunk in the crash that led to the death of Anthony Ciccone of Pepperhill, MA.
Security officers at the University of New England and Biddeford Police reported that Bennett and Ciccone had gone to the campus looking for a friend. Campus police suspected the two had caused "a disturbance" in one of the dormitories, according to the Press Herald.
The two men then left the campus, according to campus police, and a Biddeford Police officer later reported that Bennett's Ford Explorer struck a utility pole.
Ciccone was transported from the scene and pronounced dead at Southern Maine Medical Center, the Press Herald reported.
Bennett remains free on $25,000 bail until a court hearing to be scheduled.
