Central Avenue Road Closure in Effect
The entrance to Central Avenue at Atwood Avenue will be shut down for installation of a sewer line.
Following last week's partial closure and traffic restrictions on Atwood Avenue, a portion of Central Avenue will be closed to most vehicles this week as a $4 million sewer project continues.
Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is funding the work to run a new sewer line down Central Avenue and connect with the Narragansett Bay Commission's wastewater treatment system.
The lead contractor on the project, Parkside Utility Construction Corp., issued an advisory to local residents and drivers about this week's work — it's attached to this article.
According to the Parkside advisory, only rescue vehicles and school buses will be allowed to use Central Avenue between 7 am and 5 pm during weekdays as one crew completed the installation of an 18-in. line.
A second crew is scheduled to continue the installation of a 12-in. sewer line near the I-295 overpass, while a third crew will be working to perform pressure tests and take samples from a 6-in. water supply line.
