Bites Nearby: Red Ginger
Every week, we'll take a look at a locally-owned eatery.
Sometimes the thought of crispy wontons and egg rolls stir-fry the senses and you can’t help but run over your index of local Chinese eateries to satisfy your craving. Red Ginger helps you get your quick fix of quality Chinese cuisine at a price that is untouchable.
At around the height of lunch at 12:30 p.m., the restaurant was fairly empty, but as my other diner and I poured out our tea, more folks began to fill in the booths around us.
Two guests, two combination lunch specials:
- Teriyaki chicken combination special: Three teriyaki chicken skewers in a teriyaki glaze, pork-fried rice and an egg roll, $5.79
- General Tso’s chicken combination special: Large portion of chicken, covered in a General Tso’s sauce, steamed white rice and an egg roll, $5.99
Other important items to mention:
- You start off with complimentary crispy wantons with a sweet-and-sour dipping sauce, simply delicious.
- The portions are incredibly generous for a lunch special, they certainly do not skimp here.
- The egg rolls have a very light dough wrap, it is crispy and enjoyable, rather than heavy and overpowering, an absolute must-try.
- They have a very good house-made hot oil on hand that goes well on anything you’d like to beef up in the spice department — try it on your white rice.
- All the tea in China... to drink, for free!
Total bill for two -- two combination specials:
$12.72 + 20 percent tip = $15.26

@April: Thanks for your comment! I'm very particular about Chinese food, this place did a fantastic job on everything -- from portions to taste -- and it didn't hit me too hard in the wallet either!

Thanks Michael for your feedback. There are not many good Chinese places anymore. I will go back and try it again.

Well, I have to say you changed my mind! The food was cheap and tasty. How can you go wrong?
