Aug. 15: Helping Hands, Huge Hoe-Down
We're smack in the middle of August, 2012. Here are your 5 Things to Know Today.
1. Helping Hands: This is one of those stories we just have to keep promoting: residents of the Aime J. Forand Housing complex made a donation on Monday to Project Undercover, a nonprofit that provides diapers and other necessities for babies in need. Check out the video — we're sure it'll tug at your heart.
2. Hoe-Down: Today's the first day of a Rhode Island tradition, the Washington County Fair. Starts at 10 am with an antique car show, and features Abbey Rhode at 4 pm, the ever-popular swine obstacle course contest at 6, and Edens Edge onstage at 8. Follow the link above for more info and ticket website.
3. Humid: Clouds build in today, with increasing chance of rain and t-storms toward nightfall. Highs in the 80s. Clearing out — temporarily — late Thursday.
4. How Talented: The Providence Singers recently posted a call for new singers — have something you want to promote or publicize? Do like the Singers and post it on our Announcements page.
5. Happy Birthday: Is today your birthday? If so, you share it with two conquerors in vastly different disciplines — Napoleon Bonaparte, born on this date in 1769; and 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Champion Carl Edwards, who turns 32.
