Apple Festival to Include Cupcake Competition
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the North Central Chamber of Commerce-hosted event — and they're looking for local bakers to participate in a cupcake bake-off.
In a little more than three weeks, the North Central Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to host its 25th annual Apple Festival at Johnston Memorial Park — and this year's event will have a new twist: a cupcake competition.
The Chamber is seeking local bakeries to participate in the contest, to be held Sept. 29, by providing mini cupcakes for an estimated 100 to 200 visitors who will sample and judge the entries.
Categories for winners include taste, appearance, and overall People's Choice.
Registration fee is $50, and participants are required to provide a copy of their commercial food license and insurance as part of the Apple Festival.
For more information, contact Deb Ramos, President of the Chamber, at (401) 349-4674.

What I love about the Apple Festival is it gives me an opportunity to meet residents and share my ideas for cost effective government as I pass out literature in which I highlight where all the money is going in which most folks gasp by at the facts and form other opinions regarding the lack of leadership of our town, Mayoral Candidate

We went to the festival last year and were rather bummed that the only thing with apples was one booth offering apple pies and raw apples. Nothing else at all seemed to "Say Apples" anywhere at the festival. No apple dumplings, fritters or even traditional crafts like dried apple dolls...nada, nothing apple-y. We bought dog cookies and clam cakes. Clams? Where were the apples?
