5 Things To Know Today: Dec. 6
Reading for all ages at Mohr Library; Manton seniors meet; town planning board session; school board forum; and today in history: He's second to no one.
Mohr Programs: Today at Marian J. Mohr Library, there are reading programs for young and, uh, "not so young," both at 3 p.m.:
- Graphic Novel Club for students in grades 6 to 12 checks out Hellboy (don't cheat and watch the movie)
- Contemporary Book Club for the elders hosts a discussion on Kathryn Stockett’s The Help.
Stay Active: The Manton Seniors of Johnston (as opposed to the Thornton Seniors, I'm guessing) host their monthly meeting today at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church. New members welcome; yearly membership is $10.
On The Drawing Board: Ever wonder how businesses get approval for expansions or new construction? At some point, it all goes through the Johnston Planning Board, which is scheduled to meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center.
School Topics: Over at Ferri Middle School, the Johnston School Committee is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m tonight. Watch for coverage on JohnstonPatch.
Two-Fer: On this date in 1975, Archie Griffin of Ohio State won his second consecutive Heisman Trophy — the only collegate athlete to ever accomplish back-to-back Heisman awards.
