Clothing Drive to Benefit Harrington Hall

STATE HOUSE – A men’s used and new clothing drive, to help the residents of Harrington Hall in Cranston, will be held in Smithfield on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Sponsored by Sen. John J. Tassoni Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, North Smithfield) in conjunction with the House of Hope CDC (Community Development Corporation), the clothing drive will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Executive Auto Sales, 296 George Washington Highway, Smithfield.

Several Smithfield-area businesses have pledged to make contributions of cash and clothing, and employees of those companies have volunteered their time to help at the clothing drive. Among them are Executive Auto Sales; United Rentals, 275 George Washington Highway; Smithfield Peat, 295 George Washington Highway; NRI Stone, 400 George Washington Highway; Regine Printing, 208 Laurel Hill Avenue, Providence; Sentinel Group, 111 Wayland Avenue, Providence, and J.H. Communications, 111 Wayland Avenue, Providence.

Harrington Hall is the largest men’s emergency shelter in Rhode Island, managed by House of Hope.

“Especially with the colder months approaching, we need to make sure that these men who find themselves in need of temporary, emergency shelter also have clothing, one of life’s other basic needs,” said Senator Tassoni. “I implore all the good compassionate citizens of our state to bring good, clean, used or new men’s clothing to this drive – pants, shirts, jackets, socks. What are unused, unwanted old clothing for some are vitally important to the neediest in our society.”

Sen. Tassoni said that individuals who would like to help but do not have used clothing to donate can make a contribution (by check) to the House of Hope, which is a 501-c3 non-profit organization. Further information about the House of Hope is available at their website, www.thehouseofhopecdc.org.
